The Five Most Common Mistakes Made When Operating Safes
Whether or not you have a safe of your own, keeping in mind these five most common mistakes made when operating a safe can save you money and time. We stumbled on an article by Fast Casual and we couldn’t agree more with them. After having an opportunity to attend the National Restaurant Association show in Chicago, we know how important cash management safes are for the restaurant business.
Fast Casual has always brought up to date news and events about the people and the trends in the restaurant industry. They have reached over a million visitors throughout the world who want to be informed about the latest food or beverage trends. The restaurant industry is always dealing with cash. When customers pay for their meals it goes into the cash register. For safekeeping, that cash is most likely being stored into a safe for security and protection. The only problem is, some mistakes are made when operating the safes that can often lead to theft that minimizes your profit and hard earnings. Were here to remind you to follow these rules so the same mistakes aren’t made over again.
Fast Casual offered their own rendition of the most common mistakes made with safes. This is a different take since we’ll be taking a look from a restaurant perspective, but as a safe manufacturer, we believe in receiving as much input as possible to further improve our products. We introduce you to Fast Casual's top five most common mistakes in addition to our own advice that will remind and assist you to protect your cash and other valuables at all times.
1. Never Leave Your Safe Unlocked
We all get lazy every now and then, especially when something becomes a repetitive process. That means we take shortcuts and leave our safes unlocked just because we believe nothing bad will ever happen. This is where our safes are the most vulnerable. We want it to be more convenient so we leave it open, not wanting to bother entering the code a thousand times. Always make sure you lock up your safe because theft can happen anytime not just by burglars breaking in, but even employees or customers. Take the time to lock up especially when handling and storing a large amount of money.
2. Combination Locks with Daylock
Our MESA safes don’t have combination locks with daylock, but this is still a good reminder and tip that some combination locks do. With a spin dial safe, the convenience of having the combination open with a few clicks can save time and less effort, but we all know this simple trick isn't fooling anyone. Invest in a high security combination lock that makes you go through the whole combination process.
3. Sharing The Passcode or Combination
First we hope that the combination or passcode to the safe is only accessible to authorized users. When sharing a passcode for an electronic lock, make sure you have regular users and a master user. One of the issues that arise when having multiple users sharing the same code to the safe is liability when profits are missing. Another issue is the last time the combination or code was changed. If you had former employees or managers, you always want to change the code because of security reasons.
4. Saving the Combination or Passcode as a Reminder
Not everyone can memorize the combination or password very easily. Sometimes we need to remind ourselves what the password is. That means for some people they write down or save the password on their computer. The only problem is, do we make sure we keep that password safe from unauthorized users. Confidential and sensitive information such as this should be kept somewhere safe where only you have access to it. Anyone who can easily find your information can easily access the safe later on. Don’t expose your password and keep it safe like you would with all your other sensitive documents.
5. Providing Your Combination or Passcode to Unauthorized Users
Sometimes we let our guard down or trust people too easily that we give our combination or passcode to those who don’t have authorized access. Just because its more convenient for them to do it doesn’t mean you should give out your passcode like it’s nothing. That’s like giving out your credit card or social security information. Once they have your passcode, you never know if they’ll come back to use it again. Always keep your combination or passcode to yourself. What’s the point of having a combination or passcode if everyone else knows.
Moreover, take care of your combination or passcode. Keep it to yourself and if you write it down, make sure you keep it in a safe place where no one can find it. There are different types of safe locks that either use a combination dial, electronic keypad or keyed lock. Whichever lock you have, always make sure only authorized users are able to access the safe. You wouldn’t want an issue where something valuable is stolen and you have to play the detective game. Take initiative and monitor the operations of your safe to ensure protection of your valuables everyday.

Our All-New MFL2014E-OLK Depository Safe
If you haven’t heard by now, we have released a new product to our MESA depository safe line. The all-new MFL2014E-OLK is one of the newest additions to the family. The main difference between the new safe compared to our other depository safes is that it features an outer locker and comes in a lavish black rugged finish. Very similar to our MFL2714 depository safe, the only difference is the exterior locker instead of an interior locker. They are still the same as far as dimensions are concerned and provide the best protection against robbery and theft.
We designed the new depository safe to meet the demands of our customers. Many people loved the interior locker of the safe from the MFL2714, but they wanted to quickly access their belongings without having to actually open the safe. Keeping it very simple, we brought the interior locker to the outside. The exterior locker features a keyed lock for access and added security. The deposit door is still present for quick deposits and secures storage for cash and other valuables. The anti-fish baffle prevents any theft through the deposit door. The main safe door also comes with an electronic lock for high security.
The same security features still exist with the new depository safe including thick live locking bolts against any thief forcing and prying open the safe. The steel construction, 1/2’’ solid steel door and heavy duty dead bar presents the finest defense against any burglar. Included with the safe are four anchor holes so that you are able to anchor the safe securely onto the floor, wall or other types of surfaces to prevent any removal from its place.
Our depository safe line is great for any cash-handling business. This safe is absolutely necessary if you own a restaurant or store and want to keep your cash protected at all times. With the amount of burglaries that occur frequently, especially for small business owners, it’s imperative that you have some type of security safe for your cash deposits. MESA has designed and manufactured all steel safes since 1981. Our depository safes are our bread and butter, and we continue to strive to improve and develop all our safes to provide the best protection as well as delivering an affordable product for everyone. Always remember, “Better MESA Safe than Sorry!”

The 2011 National Restaurant Association Show was an enormous success. As we reflect on this past weekend’s event in Chicago, Illinois, we can’t help but share our excitement and experiences with others at this show. The NRA Show is one of the most respected and impressive shows we have been to. We are fortunate enough to have the opportunity to share our products within the restaurant industry. It was a tremendous outing for Mesa Safe Company, and we definitely look forward to meeting more people next year!
As a company who specializes in high security steel constructed safes, we certainly stood out from the crowd since most companies were restaurant or food related. We are most grateful and appreciative to those who visited our booth. We believe that for every restaurant owner and other cash handling businesses, that investing in quality steel safes are the ideal solution to keeping your money safe and protected against theft.
Our depository safe line was a massive hit. The public’s interest in our products was exceptional and exceeded our expectations. We encountered a huge amount of response as restaurant owners are seeking to purchase a high security safe for their restaurant. Many people asked questions and were eager to learn about the benefits of an all steel construction line. We were more than happy to answer all the questions we received about safety, security and cash management. We are very blessed to have the tools necessary to both educate and provide an affordable lasting solution for business owners. From the crowd’s reaction, the depository safes seem to be the ideal choice for them.
We also showcased a new addition to our Mesa Safe line, the outer locker depository safe. This safe has received a great amount of praise, as they liked having an exterior compartment instead of an inner compartment for quicker access to documents, coinage or other miscellaneous valuables. Overall, we had many compliments on the standard features of our depository line such as the front-loading door for quick deposits, the electronic lock for added security and pre-drilled anchor holes to secure onto the floor or wall.
All in all, the show was wonderful and we had a great time engaging other booths that shared dishes and cooking techniques. We learned so much about the restaurant business that we are driven and motivated to expand our products to this everlasting and growing industry. We would like to thank everyone for visiting our booth and asking questions. We are already looking forward to another successful show in 2012 in Chicago. Always remember, it’s “Better Mesa Safe than Sorry!”

Burglary Investigation in South Carolina
The police detectives of Horry County Police Department’s Property Crimes Section are looking for more information regarding the two suspects who were recently involved in raiding a restaurant just last week.
Just this past Friday (May 20th, 2011), the police officers of Horry County Police Department’s Uniform Patrol Division reacted to an emergency call from the Seafare Restaurant on North Kings Highway in the Myrtle Beach area of Horry county alarming them of a burglary.
When the police had arrived, they found out two white males who wore black clothing and ski masks broke into the restaurant after terminating the surveillance system from outside. When the suspected were inside, they went into the office in which they destroyed the alarm and telephone system. Then they broke into two separate safes with cutter tools. Over $30,000 in cash was stolen from the restaurant plus $10,000 in damage during the incident. Detectives are now beginning investigation on the crime scene and any information they can get to reveal the suspects’ identities.
The detectives are asking anyone with information that can aid them in identifying the suspects to contact them at 915-5350 or call 915-TIPS (8477) if you would like to remain anonymous.
This is devastating news for the restaurant owners who now have to go through all the trouble in trying to find the thieves. That is a large amount of money that was stolen and finding your restaurant in shackles must be heart wrenching. Not only do they have to deal with the stolen money they’ve earned, but also how much it will costs to replace and rebuild all the damage that was caused. It’s difficult to see your restaurant broken into, even with tight security. This is another prime example why you should have the best in security surveillance.
